Leather Louie Bag Weekend Workshop with Monica Bernstine June 8-9 2024

Join Monica Bernstine from Castine Handcrafted to create the small Louie Waistpack by Uh Oh Creations!
We will be using genuine leather for the exterior of the bag and waterproof lining. The class kits will include all material needed along with the pattern instructions.
All you need to bring are your favorite notions. For those who know they are quick bagmakers, feel free to bring additional projects to sew.

One Day 1 we will be choosing our materials from the leather and waterproof lining fabrics brought by Monica, if you would like you can also shop from our warehouse! There is a hardware cost built in the class fee so that you can pick your hardware color before sewing! Monica will be covering how to skive leather and giving you hands-on 1:1 experience with it! We may begin sewing if time allows. 

On Day 2 we will take time to photograph our makes with my photography guidance in a group setting. If materials and time allow you make work on other projects or sew another! 

What to Expect: 
  • Industrial Machines (guidance)
  • Working with leather, 1:1 how to use a skiver. 
  • If time allows, 1:1 photography guidance for those wanting to take their product photos to the next level
  • Hanging out with other bagineers who share your love for sewing


SKILLS REQUIRED:

Some basic sewing knowledge is REQUIRED.  I will not be here to teach you to completely sew but I will be there to go over industrial machine basics, etc. 

You do NOT need to know how to use an industrial for this workshop. We will be here to help! 

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

Please bring your preferred sewing notions & tools. Have a favorite pair of scissors or rotary cutter? Please bring it!  Materials, hardware etc will be provided for the class project, if you would like to bring other projects please feel free to do so! 

WHAT WE OFFER WITHIN THE CLASSROOM:

We provide the machines, a wide variety of thread choices, needles, clips, rulers, thread snips, lighters, screw drivers, glue, duct tape, DST, hole punches, rivet presses, ironing station, heat press station. 

We plan to provide a catered lunch on both days of the class. If you have dietary needs please let us know in the notes of your ticket or in an email. We want to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible within our space. 

ACCOMMODATIONS:

We have secured a room block with a rate of $114 a night from Friday-Monday.

The price of the ticket does not include any travel, airfare or rides to and from said locations. These are your responsibility.

OUR GOAL:

Our goal is to provide a stress-free class space to learn bagmaking. We do not want any students to feel rushed or like they weren't able to get their questions answered.
